Each year, all fourth graders at Schakel College have the opportunity to go on a five-day trip in a foreign country that is meant for educational purposes.
The study trip of this school year is headed straight to a country in South-America, namely; Suriname.
Plans are already in motion for the study trip, with a group of almost 75 Schakel students set to arrive at the J.A.P. International Airport of Suriname on the Monday afternoon of January 29th, 2024.
The itinerary includes various activities and locations that will be visited during the trip. These include Peperpot, a nature park located in the district Commewijne, which will be explored on the same day as the arrival.
Exploring several plantations, including Leonsberg, Rust & Werk, and Frederiksdorp, along with visits to various markets, the schedule also includes an overnight stay at the Menimi resort inland during the visit to the Johannes Arabi school.
A raffle started on the 23rd of October 2023, in which students vend tickets costing 5,- AWG each. The aim of this raffle is to raise funds for the Johannes Arabi School in Suriname to purchase educational equipment. The draw will take place on January 12, 2024.
Schakel College’s fourth-grade educational trip to Suriname is fast approaching. With a carefully planned itinerary and positive reviews from previous participants, it promises to be a mind-blowing experience for all involved.
