In the ever-changing rhythm of school life, there are moments that signal a shift and leave a lasting impression on students and faculty alike. At the end of the school year, we bid farewell to remarkable individuals entwined in our educational journey. As their time at Schakel College concludes, we acknowledge their contributions and lasting impact.

Mrs. Wendy

Endings and Beginnings of the Principal

As we say goodbye to exceptional educators, we recognize another important departure in our school community. Our beloved principal, Mrs. Wendy Jongstra-Maessen. Her infectious enthusiasm and forward-thinking leadership have been a guiding force in our school community, inspiring us all. After years of  dedicated leadership, Mrs. Wendy is preparing to embark on a new chapter.

Together with other enthusiastic colleagues, Mrs. Wendy created the wild plans of the Schakel Secondary School in the year 2007-2008.

“At first, we thought of organising only the lower grades and having the students go to another local secondary school for the upper grades. However, things turned out differently”, as stated by Mrs. Wendy, who has worked in education for 26 years, 19 of them at the Schakel.

This role is her life’s work, which makes it difficult for Mrs. Wendy to let it go. But she wants another adventure, one that is not in the realm of education. Mrs. Wendy and her husband, Mr. Roger Jongstra, are planning to immigrate to Costa Rica and start a glamping business in the middle of nature with a view of a volcano and a lake, a lifelong dream for Mr. Roger.

“What I have always found very important is that we pay a lot of attention to each other”, Mrs. Wendy declared, leaving a piece of advice for us as she goes. She believes it is important to have mutual appreciation and respect and she hopes we can have that for each other.

Completing the story of her departure, Mrs. Wendy added, “It is with pain and trial, but it is also a new adventure.”

Mrs. Wendy’s infectious enthusiasm and forward-thinking leadership will continue to inspire us all.
